Joel Kolkmann is Vice President, Land Use & Affordable Development at Douglaston Development. He joined the company in 2017 as a Project Manager on the Affordable Housing team and brings over a decade of real estate, urban planning, public policy, and project management experience. At Douglaston, Mr. Kolkmann manages all phases of development for the company’s affordable housing new construction portfolio. Among these projects are a 161-unit affordable senior housing building in Staten Island, an approximately 160-unit mixed-income, mixed use building in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, and a two-phase, approximately 450-unit development in the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Kolkmann worked as a Team Leader at the New York City Department of City Planning, where he managed a team of City Planners responsible for neighborhood planning and rezoning initiatives and the review of housing, commercial, and infrastructure projects on the East Side of Manhattan. He also previously served as a Project Manager at the Municipal Art Society of New York, focusing on community-based planning.
Mr. Kolkmann serves as a Director of Public-Private Real Estate Professionals (P/PREP) and is a member of the Young Leadership Council of the New York Housing Conference.
Mr. Kolkmann holds his B.A. and M.P.A from Clark University. He is currently pursuing an M.B.A from the New York University Stern School of Business, with specializations in Finance and Real Estate.
